:: GLOSSARY
SATIN MATERIAL - A Satin is a cloth that typically has a glossy surface and a dull back. A satin is a weaving technique that forms a minimum number of interlacings in a fabric. If a fabric is formed with a satin weave using filament fibers such as silk or nylon, the corresponding fabric is termed a "satin." If the yarns used are short-staple yarns such as cotton, the fabric formed is considered a "sateen."

GEORGETTE MATERIAL - a thin strong clothing crepe of fibers woven from hard-twisted yarns to produce a dull pebbly surface. Lightweight, heavy, sheer fabric. Has quite a bit of stiffness and body. Gives excellent wear. Has a dull, crinkled surface. Achieved by alternating S and Z yarns in a high twist in both warp and filling directions. Georgette has a harser, duller, more crinkled feel and appearance than crepe de chine.

CREPE MATERIAL - worsted cotton, wool, silk, man-made synthetics. Mostly plain, but various weaves. Has a crinkled, puckered surface or soft mossy finish. Comes in different weights and degrees of sheerness. Dull with a harch dry feel. Woolen crepes are softer than worsted. If it is fine, it drapes well. Has very good wearing qualities. Has a very slimming effect. Depending on weight, it is used for dresses of all types, including long dinner dresses, suits, and coats.

ZARDOZI - Ancient Persian art (Zar in Persian means Gold and Dozi means Embroidery) which dates back to before the Mughal Empire. Patterns are traced in Gold and Silver, studded with seed pearls and precious stones, which enhance the shimmering beauty of silk, velvet and brocade. Zardozi embroidery is fashioned with a needle that is used to run up and down through the cloth, while the cloth is pulled tightly over a large wooden frame.
PUNJABI SUIT -

CHURIDAR - Pants which are snug around the calf and ankle, but loose at the hips and thighs. The garment is made long so that gatherings form at the ankle. Can be worn by girls under salwar or boys under a kurta (tunic). Also spelled as Churidhar.

HIJAB - Hijab is the word used in the Islamic context for the practice of dressing modestly, which all practicing Muslims past the age of puberty are instructed to do in their holy book, the Qur'an.

PURDAH - Purdah (Urdu, Persian: پردہ ; also transliterated as 'purda') is the practice of requiring women to cover their bodies so as to cover their skin and conceal their form.

CHADOR - A chador (in Persian: چادر Châdor) is an outer garment worn by women; it is one possible way in which a Muslim woman may follow the hijab dress-code. Chador is mostly used by the practicing religious women in urban or rural Iran.

BURQA - Two different items of traditional Muslim women's clothing are known as a burqa, (sometimes misspelled as burka or burqua).

CHIFFON MATERIAL - A Lightweight , Sheer, Plain Weave Fabric With A Dull Surface, A Soft Hand , And Good Drape. It Is Made With Fine High Twisted Yarns And Has An Even Or Close To Even Number Of Threads Per Inch In The Warp And Weft. Originally Made In Silk But Now Found In Polyester And Other Man-made Filament Yarns. Used In Dresses Blouses, Scarves, Veils.

COTTON MATERIAL - Cotton is a soft fibre that grows around the seeds of the cotton plant, a shrub native to the tropical and subtropical regions of both the Old World and the New World. The fibre is most often spun into thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile.

SAREE PETICOAT - A long flared draw-string skirt, worn underneath a sari to give it shape. Most of the sari is tucked into the waist band of the Petticoat and the end of the sari is draped over the shoulder.

LENGHA CHOLI - also known as lehengha choli / ghagra choli / sharara / chaniya choli and just CHOLI
Traditional Indian blouse, worn with saree or ghagara. Very short and closely fitted, it usually ties at the back with single ties or a criss-cross shoe-lace style drawstring, or it ties into a knot at the front in the middle of the chest.
A short blouse, which leaves the midriff exposed, usually worn with a saree / lehenga / ghagra.

SAREE - also spelled as sari.
A sari is the traditional female garment of the Indian subcontinent.[1] The sari is a very long strip of unstitched cloth, ranging from four to nine metres in length, which can be draped in various styles. The most common style is for the sari to be wrapped around the waist, with one end then draped over the shoulder baring the midriff.[1] The sari is usually worn over a petticoat (called lehnga/ghagra in northern India, pavada/pavadai in the south, and shaya in eastern India), with a blouse known as a choli forming the upper garment. The choli has short sleeves with a low neck and is usually cropped, which is particularly well-suited for wear in the sultry South Asian summers. Office dress codes, however, prohibit cropped, sleeveless cholis; similarly, women in the armed forces, when wearing a sari uniform, don a half-sleeve shirt tucked in at the waist.

SALWAR KAMEEZ - or shalwar qamiz or shalwar kameez
alwar kameez is the traditional dress worn by various peoples of south-central Asia. It is the national dress for both men and women in Pakistan and Afghanistan (where they say "shalwar" instead of "salwar"). It is also popular among women in India.

SALWAR - a pair of light loose trousers with a tight fit around the ankles; worn by women from the Indian subcontinent (usually with a kameez)
KAMEEZ - A shirt or tunic worn by girls over a salwar (pant) - may be of varying lengths depending on the current fashion trend). Also spelled as Khameez / Kamiz.

DUBETTA - Dupatta is a long scarf that is essential to many Indian and Pakistani women's suits. Some "dupatta suits" include the salwar kameez, the trouser suit, and the kurta. The dupatta has long been a symbol of modesty in South Asian dress. It traditionally is worn across both shoulders. However, the dupatta can also be worn like a cape around the entire torso. The material for the dupatta varies according to the suit: cotton, georgette, silk, chiffon, and more.

A-LINE SKIRT - women's clothing that has a fitted top and a flared skirt that is widest at the hemline; "it is called the A-line because the effect resembles the capital letter A"

MERMAID/FISH CUT SKIRT - narrow gown with skirt that flares from the knee or just below it.

UMBRELLA SKIRT - very flared kind of skirt that resembles the shape of an umbrella in asemi-circle.

STRAIGHT CUT SKIRT - a kind of skirt or dress that hugs the body tightly especially around the hips giving a straight look.

ZARI - Zari is a type of thread made of fine gold or silver wire used in traditional Indian garments. This thead is woven into fabrics, primarily made of Silk to create intricate patterns.

KORI

RESHAM - Fine needled embroidery done with silk thread by skilled artisans.

BROCADE - Rich jacquard, woven fabric with an all over interwoven design of raised figures or flowers. Brocade has a raised surface in contrast to felt damask, and is generally made of silk, rayon and nylon yarns with or without metallic treatment.

TANCHOI - Figured silk with multiple supplementary weft threads, that create a heavy densly patterned fabric
